There are plenty of proud moments for the armed force in the Indian history. Our armed forces protecting our country not only from our enemy also from cross border attacks, terrorism and infiltration.
The forces are very much active and supportive in every other adversity be it disaster, floods, earthquakes, cyclones or rescue operations. Indian soldiers also travel across the regions of the world to maintain peace and order. It is reported that there are about 25,000 military personnel have been martyred in fighting to save the country. It is a supreme sacrifice for the nation, but it is also a disaster in the lives of the soldier’s family and dependents.
Furthermore, it is important to note that armed forces veterans have given their golden years and life in the service of the nation. Veterans and their families are deserved to be taken care well by their countrymen.
According to data from Department of Sainik Welfare DSW, at least 90 percent of army widows live in rural areas, and are either illiterate or have minimal levels of education. This limits their employment opportunities, and in some cases, leaves them vulnerable to losing their monthly pensions to unscrupulous in-laws. It has been found the government assistance they have received is not enough to live a dignified life.
The family, especially the wife, is under tremendous stress in the event of a soldier laying- down life for the country. She ceases to have a support system and regular income for the family. It also impacts adversely on children and their education.
Most of these women are widowed before they turn 30, and for the next four to five decades of their lives, they are left with the unending struggle to survive their loss, raise their children, and take care of their families.
Also, it is our prime duty to extend our helping hands to the armed forces veterans, war widows, widows and their dependents for betterment of their life.
There are three things that Mastermind Foundation is extending help to the needy.
- To provide skill development / empowerment initiatives to Veterans, Widows, War Widows to mainstream them into self-reliance.
- Financial assistance to Children’s of Widows, War Widows for their
- The third activity is to recognize and reward Veterans and Veer Naries (war widows) at events organized in remembrance of their services and sacrifices. It could be one time effort to reward during special days such as Republic day, Independence Day and Kargil Vijay
It is the right time to stand, support and salute the armed personnel, war heroes and their families. Soldiers are awake so that the country sleep in peace. Their sacrifices should not go unnoticed. It is the golden opportunity to the companies in India to raise to the occasion and support welfare of armed forced personnel and their families.
